Diesel submarine

I remember checking out a diesel submarine
At Port Adelaide: many long years ago
Tim & I went to the Port to check it out
We got to go down inside the old hulk
It smelled terrible: full of diesel fumes
I would never have been able to live in there
Felt so sorry for all those poor sailors
Imagine having to live in there underwater
In such close quarters with all your mates
What an awful place to die in: like sardines
In a tin can: imagine having depth charges
Dropped all around your craft: that'd be daft!
What a terrible way to wage a war: pitiful
No man should have to live & die that way
Such a terrible crying shame to lose young men
So many dying during our terrible world wars
We human beings have so much to answer for!
