Burnt eyes

The welder flashed out its warning
"Welder beware: take cover!"
Though he used the mask's protection
For just one moment he didn't bother
That was the beginning of the pain
By that evening he was so distressed
Nothing would ease the pain with
Which he was then blessed: nothing!
The doctor at the hospital helped him
Gave him a little bit of blessed relief but
Many more trips to the specialist to come
As we stumbled our way through
Those pain-filled days were a drain
The eye specialist had to scrape off
Those little growths upon his poor eyes
Yes those poor eyes so red & sore
Never felt like that before: learnt the lesson
But suffered through those gruelling weeks
Had local anaesthetic drops instilled
Told to be careful for they were strong
Mustn't take them incorrectly: mustn't deviate
For another doctor had used them ill
That poor doctor is blinded still!
